<span style="font-size: large;">Sergey Mavrodi of inventor MMM Mavrodi who expressed his disappointed about the way MMM is being painted in the media, said emphatically that “MMM will be back in January” while stating that the rumour about the scheme collapse should stop. Mavrodi’s open letter is coming after a one-month freezing of confirmed “Mavros” notice was sent to MMM Nigeria participants on Dec 12, 2016. Sergey Mavrodi went ahead to describe articles from Nigerians journalists and bloggers as “provocative and worthless.” His statement read: “Dear journalists, “analysts” and all kinds of “experts”! Please stop using MMM to gain cheap popularity.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Leave us alone and let us work without interference. I’m just astonished by your irresponsibility and cynical attitude. Interests of millions of people, your fellow citizens are at stake. Don’t you have any sympathy for them? Why are you fueling hysteria around MMM and provoking a panic? Why are you doing this so diligently and persistently, what is your purpose? “In fact, absolutely all your provocative and worthless articles and “analyses” (I said “worthless” because you do not have any real information about what happens in the System, and might have never had; you simply invent everything, fabricate it) are merely negative: “MMM has collapsed!!!.. MMM will not be working in January!!!..” etc. “Are you intentionally presenting all of it in such a manner and whipping up tension by any means possible in order to increase the ratings of your publications and attract attention to them? Don’t you care about people at all? “So, nothing has collapsed, and MMM will safely resume its work in January, as announced. Suspension of work for holidays is a usual thing, merely working moment, no more than that.</span><br />

No Cancellation of Nigeria's Participation In India-Africa Summit - Presidency

The presidency has stated that Nigeria's delegation to the India-Africa 
Conference which starts tomorrow in New Delhi will be led by Industry 
& Trade Minister, Dr. Okey Enelamah. <br />
In a statement, Laolu Akande, spokesman to Vice-President Yemi 
Osinbajo, denied that an advance party from the Vice President's office 
had departed for India.<br />

“No such thing happened because there was no such final decision to travel,” he said.<br />

“Nigerians know wherever Mr. President is, at home or abroad he acts 
fully in his office except if on break, [is] indisposed or 
incapacitated,” Mr. Akande stressed.  “So the question of his traveling 
creating a vacuum does not even exist at all,”<br />
Earlier on Sunday, SaharaReporters reported that Professor Osinbajo, 
who was due to lead a 27-person delegation to the conference, had 
canceled it. <br />

That development followed miscues by the Protocol Department of the 
Presidency, as President Muhammadu is also scheduled to travel to 
Equatorial Guinea on Monday.<br />

That would have meant that Senate President Bukola Saraki, who is on 
trial for corruption, would in practice have become Acting President for
 a few days.<br />

Lai Mohammed: I Never Said Economy Is Beyond Buhari's Control

The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has refuted claims he said Nigeria's economy is beyond the control of the president and his economy team. Mohammed was quoted as making the comment (on the state of the country’s economy) on a radio show on Saturday. But following the criticisms that 
greeted the report, the minister, in   a statement by his special 
assistant, Segun Adeyemi, said he was misquoted. He said, “I appeared on a radio show 
here in Abuja at which I spoke extensively on the issues affecting our 
country especially the economy.</div>

“To my surprise, my views were twisted 
and I was reported to have said that the economy of our country is 
beyond the control of the President. I could not have said that the economy is out of the control of the President or the administration that he is leading.’’</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The minister said the Federal Government
 decided to turn the economic disaster that it inherited to a blessing 
by diversifying the economy.</div>

Mohammed added, “I think Kannywood (Hausa entertainment industry) is one of the examples of this diversification.</div>

NNPC Remits N85 Billion Into Federation Account

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it has paid N85.96 billion into the Federation Account for January 2016. This was contained in its Monthly Operations and Financial Report for January, released on Sunday in Abuja. The corporation said it made the payment in spite of recording a loss of N3.55 billion in the same month. It also said it paid N1.05 trillion into the Federation Account within a 12-month period, from February 2015 to January 2016.<br />
Giving
 a breakdown of the amounts transferred in January, NNPC said N85.077 
billion was from the sale of crude oil while N880.3 million was receipts
 from gas sales. It noted that the corporation posted a loss of N3.55billion, compared to a loss of N11.86 billion recorded in December 2015. According
 to the report, NNPC’s loss-making performance was triggered by a drop 
in its revenue from N184.4 billion recorded in December 2015 to N130.86 
billion in January 2016. The corporation said it recorded expenditure
 of N134.41 billion in the month under review compared to N196.26 
billion in December 2015.<br />
It also revealed that the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, (NPDC), recorded a profit of N3.958 billion. The
 Nigerian Gas Company, NNPC Retail and the Pipeline Products Marketing 
Company, PPMC, recorded profits of N3.94 billion, N477 million and N2.25
 billion respectively. It listed Integrated Data Services Limited, 
IDSL, National Engineering Technical Company, NETCO in loss category 
with losses of N557 million and N215 million respectively. “The Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries posted losses of N2.87 billion, N1.95 billion and N900 million respectively. “The
 NNPC Group’s Corporate Headquarter and Corporate Services Unit recorded
 a deficit of N6.37 billion and N1.32 billion respectively,” the 
corporation was quoted as saying.</div>

Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has announced that The Federal Government will next week announce a major overhaul of the NNPC  as well as the firm’s unbundling into 30 different companies according to the 
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of
 the NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu. He stated that the government has 
started resolving the governance issues in the oil and gas sector, 
adding that an overhaul had not happened at the corporation in the past

Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Oloibiri Lecture Series in Abuja on 
Thursday. He further stated that the latest financial report of the NNPC for 
the month of January showed that the corporation’s losses had reduced

Senate Faces Public Criticism Following N330 Million Cars

The Nigerian Senate came under severe criticisms 
by members of the public on Saturday for defying Nigerians, including 
President Muhammadu Buhari on the purchase of exotic vehicles.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Eminent Nigerians including the Chairman
 of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse 
Sagay (SAN),   Senator Femi Okurounmu and Dr. Junaid Mohammed, condemned
 the Senate for going ahead to purchase the vehicles.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The contractor in charge of delivering the vehicles confirmed<i> </i>that it had delivered “a lot of vehicles to the Senate. The Senate had taken delivery of the exotic vehicles and the deliveries were done from Lagos and Abuja. The Group Executive Director, Lanre Shittu Motors, Mr. Taiwo Shittu,  stated that a lot of 
deliveries had been made to the Senate.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In his reaction, prominent Yoruba leader, Okurounmu, on Saturday described the purchase of the vehicles as disgraceful. Okurounmu, who represented Ogun-Central 
senatorial district between 1999 and 2003, said the purchase of vehicles
 at a time when over 20 states could not pay salaries was callous.

He opined that “If this is true, the action of
 the Senate is completely unpatriotic, callous and shows that they don’t
 care about the welfare of the Nigerians that they are supposed to be 
representing and they are only there to look after their own interests. 
They are selfish."</div>

Also commenting on the development, Prof. Sagay described the senators as a group of “shameless people” who are unfit to occupy public office. He further stated that their profligate lifestyle may be capable of causing poor Nigerians to revolt against the government.

with a group of people that are totally incorrigible in their love for 
material things at the expense of Nigerians. They have no limit and have
 no sense of shame or restraint. They will go all out and continue to

office. They are a disgrace to this country and somehow, if it was 
possible, I would want them to be shamed out of the National Assembly. 
They are unfit for that position and a disgrace to any civilised

Lending his voice to the controversial 
acquisition of vehicles, a former Governor of Kaduna State, Balarabe 
Musa, wondered where the Senate got the funds to purchase the vehicles 
since the 2016 budget had not yet been passed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Describing the incident as ‘mindlessness’, the former governor said the matter must be investigated by the relevant authorities.</div>

He said, “Who authorised the purchase of
 the vehicles? The budget has not yet been approved so where did they 
get the money to buy the vehicles? Are they using the law which 
authorises the President to spend the equivalent of what was spent last 
year to buy the vehicles?</div>

“Besides the mindlessness of such an act
 in the face of the economic crisis, why should lawmakers use their 
position to enrich themselves? Has the National Assembly allowed itself 
to be involved in illegality?”</div>
