palliative work on some federal roads
- The Umuahia-Ikot-Ekpene federal
highway is already benefiting from the
work
- This is as the Christmas and New Year
approaches
The federal government through the Federal
Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has
commenced work on the Umuahia-Ikot-
Ekpene federal highway.
According to The Authority, FERMA's work
has elicited excitement from residents in
Abia state and other commuters who ply the
route.
The nightmarish experience commuters are
subjected to on the highway had remained a
source of concern.
Accidents became the order of the day on the
highway, which serves as the major link road
between Abia and Akwa Ibom state.
The road is particularly deplorable on the
Abia end of the highway worsening the
plight of commuters and communities living
along the road.
The representative of FERMA, Mr Abraham
Akange, said that the government's decision
to fix the highway was due to the pressure
from the National Assembly members from
Abia State. He said that adequate provisions had been
made for the project and urged the
contractor to do a quality job.
